Effects of freeze-thaw cycles on soil structure under different tillage and plant cover management practices

چکیده

Soil structure plays a central role in many soil processes that are environmentally relevant. Intermittent freezing of the over winter is an important abiotic disturbance temperate climates and its effects on depend soil’s preexistent structural strength cohesion. Management choices such as tillage plant cover after harvest strongly influence structure, therefore response to freeze-thaw. We examined 5 freeze-thaw cycles (FT) µCT-detectable intact topsoil cores (Ø=100 mm, h=80 mm) from long-term rotation experiment Denmark. The were divided among two treatments treatments, corresponding gradient strength: CT-B1020 µm) analyzed macroporosity (V t ), mean diameter (d m ) Euclidian dis ance nearest (ED ). Additionally, we several µCT-derived geometric parameters Full Range. Overall, NT-B NT-V resulted lower than CT-B CT-V. Similarly, found fewer, less branched macropores with shorter branch length NT compared CT for both treatments. However, propose might be confounded by overlapping relatively few, complex voluminous coarse more abundant, very fine macropores. Freeze-thaw, turn, caused crumbling around macropores, reducing V d Range > 1020 range. FT significant increases reductions ED < 300 range, indicating creation new expansion previously indiscernible reduced (for equal treatments) treatments), greater resilience against cases. • was investigated via μCT analysis size. Freeze-thaw expands reduces macroporosity. No-till longer diminish changes cycles.

Impacts of different tillage practices on some soil microbiological properties and crop yield under semi-arid Mediterranean conditions

Effects of six tillage practices on some soil microbiological properties and crop yields were evaluated for a clay soil (Typic Haploxererts) under semi-arid Mediterranean conditions in a three year study (2006-2009). The experiment was designed as a completely randomized-block with three replications. Treatments were: conventional tillage with residue incorporated (CT1), conventional tillage wi...

The Effects of Concrete Pavement Mix Design Parameters on Durability under Freeze and Thaw Condition

This paper is based on an experimental research that examined the effects of concrete`s major parameters on durability of concrete pavements and curbs under freezing and thawing cycles. These parameters include concrete mix design parameters such as water-cement ratio, fine aggregate percentage and using air entraining admixture and simulating real freeze-thaw cycles that infrastructures underg...

Test Study on Strength and Permeability Properties of Lime-Fly Ash Loess under Freeze-Thaw Cycles

In order to study the application of lime-fly ash loess in permafrost subgrade engineering, uniaxial compressive test, fast direct shearing test and permeability tests were carried out on lime-fly ash loess under different curing ages and freeze-thaw cycles. Uniaxial compressive strength of lime-fly ash loess increases slowly with the curing ages, and can reach 3.5 Mpa after the curing ages of ...

Phylogenetic and multivariate analyses to determine the effects of different tillage and residue management practices on soil bacterial communities.

Bacterial communities are important not only in the cycling of organic compounds but also in maintaining ecosystems. Specific bacterial groups can be affected as a result of changes in environmental conditions caused by human activities, such as agricultural practices. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of different forms of tillage and residue management on soil bacterial communi...
